Joker Magic Magical Energy specifications

This very effective trick is performed with completely ordinary equipment, which can be examined by the audience.

The magician takes an elastic string and stretches it out, holding it at about a 45° angle (so not horizontally).
He then asks a member of the audience who has just examined a pen, to hang it on the elastic string near the lower hand of the magician.
The pen then slowly wanders up along the elastic without the magician moving his hands, or seem doing anything at all!
